Mike Sorrentino to Begin Prison Sentence In January
Back in January, Jersey Shore star Mike Sorrentino pled guilty to tax fraud charges, allegedly avoiding paying taxes on nearly $ 9 million in earnings.
Earlier this month, Sorrentino was sentenced to 8 months in prison for his crimes.
Needless to say, the last year hasn’t exactly been loaded with good news for the Situation.
But this week, the 36-year-old reality TV icon finally got his way … kind of.
Radar Online is reporting that Sorrentino will not be required to report to prison until January of 2019.
“The defendant shall surrender to the custody of Bureau of Prisons no earlier than January 15, 2019 or as soon thereafter as the Bureau of Prisons shall designate,” read court papers obtained by the site.
“It is further ordered that Defendant shall surrender to the custody of the Bureau of Prisons at a location to be designated by the Bureau of Prisons.”
It may sound like a minor detail, but it makes all the difference to Mike and his future wife.
Yes, Sorrentino is engaged to Lauren Pesce, and the couple is planning to tie the knot in November.
Mike had previously been assured by his lawyers that he wouldn’t be forced to report to prison until after his wedding date, but it wasn’t official until today.
So now, Mike can enjoy his wedding day, as well as a holiday season at home with his family.
And who knows? Maybe he’ll be able to cash in a bit before he starts his sentence by filming more episodes of Shore.
Jersey Shore Family Vacation was supposed to be a one-off reunion event, but higher-than-expected ratings prompted the green-lighting of JSFV 2, and now it doesn’t look like this train will be stopping anytime soon.
That’s bittersweet news for Mike, of course.
The man has a lot of restitution to pay off, and thus, he probably appreciates the additional income more than any of his castmates.
That said, he’s about to go away for the better part of a year, and TV audiences are more fickle than ever these days.
Will there be a demand for more Shore after Sorrentino completes his sentence?
Will his former housemates continue to make the show without him?
Only time will tell, but for now, Sorrentino is likely focused on two things:
His wedding, and getting into the proper mindset to endure eight months behind bars.
We wish all the best to Mike and his family during the difficult times ahead.
