Frankie Grande Pens Powerful Tribute to the Late Mac Miller
Fans are still reeling from the news that Mac Miller died last week. The rapper was only 26, but he touched countless lives.
Those who knew him best remember how he touched their lives personally.
Frankie Grande, brother of Miller’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, is opening up about how Miller transformed his life.
“I am beyond heartbroken over Malcolm’s death,” Frankie’s heartfelt Instagram post begins. “He was a good friend and was wonderful to my sister.”
“He was the reason I went to the rehabilitation center,” Frankie reveals. “Where I was detoxed safely from all of the drugs alcohol and medications I was taking.”
Frankie explains that this was at a time “when I couldn’t imagine living without them.”
“It was the place where I found the community of support that showed me that living life without drugs was a possibility,” Frankie shares.
“And,” Frankie explains. “I would never have discovered that if it weren’t for Malcolm.”
“I remember when I would get 30, 60, 90 days clean,” Frankie recalls.
Frankie continues: “And Malcom would be there with a gift and a card and words of encouragement…”
Miller would be “telling me that he knew how hard getting sober is and how impressed he was that I was succeeding.”
Even someone who continues to battle addiction can cheer for others to get better.
Frankie writes: “Addiction is a TERRIBLE disease …”
Frankie makes it clear that even a sober addict is still an addict.
“Many people are suffering from addiction like I am,” Frankie writes. “And many many of them are losing.”
“Those of us who are struggling with addiction must stay strong,” he affirms.
He continues to share lessons imparted by Miller in life — and in death.
“We must continue to work HARD on ourselves every single day,” Frankie continues. “And help each other.”
Frankie gives a shout out to others who struggle with addiction.
“Our disease is strong but WE ARE STRONGER,” Frankie insists. “And I vow to work every moment of my life to keep myself sober so that i may be there for others.”
“This is a difficult road,” Frankie admits. “But YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TRUDGE IT ALONE.”
“To anyone who needs help, help is there,” Frankie makes clear. “You just need to have the courage to ask, which I know can be EXTREMELY difficult…”
Frankie writes: “but when you do I GUARANTEE support will be there.”
Frankie implores his fans and followers: “do not be ashamed if you are losing the battle against addiction, shame feeds the disease, humility defeats it. please ask for help!”
“You are NOT ALONE!” Frankie writes. “I am here… and I will continue to be here… for you…”
“Malcom my friend,” Frankie continues. “You will be dearly missed. and I know you will be looking down on me from heaven, proudAF for every day I live my life clean and sober…”
Frankie concludes by mentioning that he is “453 days and counting… Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
That is a truly powerful message.
