Stranger Things Star GOES OFF on Muslim Ban: Watch!
The 2017 SAG Awards honored the very best in television and movies on Sunday night.
Some of the time, at least.
During many other moments, those featured on stage and on the red carpet at the ceremony couldn't help but comment on Donald Trump's latest executive order.
They aimed to make it clear that they are so NOT cool with cutting off refugee admission to the United States, especially where there's no basis for the claim that Trump's order will make America safer in any way, shape or form.
Simon Helberg and his wife, for example, held up a sign and made a strong statement prior to the event.
Ashton Kutcher and Julia-Louis Dreyfus were then among the stars who spoke out strongly against the White House's immigration ban.
But no one made an impression quite like David Harbour.
A star on the Netflix sensation Stranger Things, Harbour got a chance to give a speech when his series surprised many by taking home the prize for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series..
And he took full advantage of this opportunity.
"We are united in that we are all human beings and we are all together on this horrible painful, joyous exciting and mysterious ride that is being alive.
“As we act in the continuing narrative of Stranger Things, we 1983 midwesterners will repel bullies, we will shelter freaks and outcasts, those who have no hope," the actor said, referring to "that’s going on in the world today" and continuing as follows:
We will shelter freaks and outcasts, those who have no homes. We will get past the lies, we will hunt monsters, and when we are lost amidst the hypocrisy and the casual violence of certain individuals and institutions, we will, as per chief Jim Hopper, punch some people in the face, when they seek to destroy the meek, and the disenfranchised, and the marginalized, and we will do it all with soul, with heart and with joy.
The best parts of the speech?
- The raucous, enthusiastic, loud crowd response.
- Winona Ryder's reaction, as she displayed everything from shock to confusion to hilarity while standing directly alongide Harbour.
The speech is bound to result in some backlash.
But it was a pretty amazing few minutes to witness.
