Zach Galifianakis to Hillary Clinton: What If You Get Pregnant in the White House?
Zach Galifianakis’ faux-interview series Between Two Ferns has brought us countless memorable moments over the years.
Yes, the time that he spanked Justin Bieber is obviously the first that springs to mind, but some of the verbal smackdowns that Galifianakis has laid on his A-list guests have been even more hilariously shocking.
Like Ali G before him, Galifianakis demonstrated his ability to lure big names from the world of politics when President Obama sat for a Between Two Ferns segment in 2014.
Obama was applauded for using humor to get the word out about the Affordable Care Act, so perhaps it’s not surprising that Hillary Clinton opted to follow his lead and submit herself to one of Galifianakis’ bonkers Q&A sessions.
But while the move wasn’t wholly unexpected, the content of the interview is jaw-dropping in its hysterical audacity.
Right off the bat, Galifianakis pokes fun at the rumors about Clinton’s health by sneaking up on the former Secretary of State dressed as the Grim Reaper.
And he doesn’t let much from there.
Questions from Galifianakis include:
“Are you excited to be the first girl president?”
“How does President Obama like his coffee? Like himself? Weak?”
“What happens if you get pregnant? Are we going to be stuck with Tim Kaine for nine months? How does this work?”
“First you supported Obama’s Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, and then you were against it. I think that people deserve to know. Are you down with TPP?”
“When you see how well it works for Donald Trump, do you ever think to yourself, ‘Oh, maybe I should be more racist?'”
“Any regrets over losing the Scott Baio vote?”
“Well this has been a lot of fun Mrs. Clinton. We should stay in touch. What’s the best way to reach you? Email?”
Remarkably, Clinton handles the awkwardness with grace and humor.
Well, when she’s not completely dumbstruck by Zach’s questions, that is.
It’s been a big week for Clinton’s “likeability factor,” as her interview with Jimmy Fallon also showcased the candidate’s ability to laugh at herself.
All-in-all it’s been a big week for Between Two Ferns, as Galifianakis’ 2014 interview with Brad Pitt (the most recent segment before today’s) has resurfaced as a result of the portion in which the comedian gifts Pitt with a giant bong.
We’d petition Galifianakis to turn Ferns into a nightly series, but the master class in cringe comedy works beast the way it is:
As a random and wildly unexpected thing that takes social media by storm at odd intervals.
Not unlike Galifianakis himself.
